"Volume", the sound installation by Franz Pomassl at EVN's Theiss power plant, opened in October 2002 with the one-day electronic music festival "Prototype".
The event, organized jointly with the Austrian electronic label Laton (Franz Pomassl) and the "Redaktionsbüro" (Antje Mayer), brought together the most important international representatives of avant-garde electronic music for the first time in Austria.
Musicians like Pan Sonic, Carsten Nicolai, Mira Calix, Terre Thaemlitz or Franz Pomassl himself as well as newcomers like Auxpan convinced with performances in the turbine hall of the Kraftwerk, which functioned as a sound body. The special feature and commonality of these artists is their work with and on self-developed instruments. This was also conveyed live and directly to an enthusiastic audience. The interaction between "mechanized" electronic music and the technically complex environment of the power-producing machine hall was particularly exciting.
