Here is a carpet woven from thousands of heads Katarzyna Józefowicz cut from magazines. Celebrities, those rapidly forgotten again and those who for some reason got into the mass-media reproduction process, become part of a “cemetery of individuality” (Adam Szymczyk).

The artist and meticulous collector from Gdansk began to produce “people collections” in 1995. The arduous nature of the process is the reason that relatively few “carpets” have been made. Since the artist’s live-in studio is very confined, she worked on smaller modules that were then only joined together into her paper carpet in 1998 in the Galeria Foksal in Warsaw.

One important aspect in the dealing with media faces is, aside from the consequent monotony of the work process, the “disempowerment” of the individual image and its suggestive potential.
